Principal Network Architect, with over 20 years experience working in many of the varied aspects of telecommunication and data network engineering. From working in 'voice switch', SDH/PDH, radio, access, data, project management, I now work as a network architect, developing next generation technologies specialising in voice and access networks.

Employment History:

June 2001 - Present: ntl: Principal Engineer - Network Architecture

  • Evolution of network from TDM based services to Ethernet/IP.

  • Management of obsolescence issues and controlled migration to NGN.

  • Development of Ethernet services in the first mile.

  • Implementation of VoIP in the access layer, (H.248 and SIP based).

  • Equipment and manufacture evaluations and negotiations.

April 1998 – June 2001: ntl: Network Development Engineer

  • Continued development and documentation for all services.

  • Type approval, integration and regression testing.

  • Development of SDH products for residential and business services.

  • Implementation of xDSL for E1 (2Mbit/s), business services.

  • Replacement of all critical power plants with switch sites, with no down time.

  • Development of environmental systems, ensuring outside plant operates with required specifications.

  • Provide technical support to Network Operation centres.


September 1995 – April 1998 HB Technologies Design Engineer

  • Direct Responsibility for DECT and ISDN developments.

  • Formed business partnerships with Sharp and Siemens for critical part development and delivery.

  • Work with overseas development sites in Hong Kong, Madrid, Berlin.

  • Support manufacturing site, Shenzhen, China.

June 1994 - September 1995 Linden Instruments Ltd Design Engineer

  • Primary position was to fully redesign an 'Intrinsically Safe' enunciator (used on oil drilling rigs) from a total hardware systems to a modern micro processor system. Bringing the control and additional flexibility to it deployments, and well as improving reliability and reducing costs.

Sept 1985 - Oct 1992 ( GEC Plessey Telecommunications ) Senior Development Engineer

  • Development system based feature-phones, both analogue and digital for large P.A.B.X.'s and system X.

  • Business case control to ensure correct financial flow.

  • Integrate systems onto all GPT switches.
